Online EMDR Therapy
Secure EMDR sessions with a trained therapist
What is EMDR?
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, is a therapeutic approach that originated with Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980’s. In her original case study, Dr. Shapiro found that therapy with Eye Movement Desensitization was more effective at reducing disress and increasing confidence in individuals with traumatic memories than the same therapy without EMD.
After decades of development, EMDR is a well-researched therapy protocol that consists of eight phases. Through the eight phases of EMDR therapy, individuals work with a trained clinician to work through traumatic and stressful memories. Research has repeatedly showed that Eye Movement Desesensitization and Reprocessing can help people find freedom from trauma more quickly than other therapeutic methods.
Who Can EMDR Help?
EMDR was initially developed to treat individuals with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and remains a top treatment choice for people experiencing PTSD. Research suggests in-person and online EMDR therapy can benefit those that struggle with many difficulties and diagnoses. How Does Virtual EMDR Therapy Work?
EMDR therapy online is essentially the same as in-person sessions. Recent research has shown that online EMDR sessions offer great benefit to clients struggling with a variety of disorders. Virtual EMDR therapy is designed to help you work with unprocessed trauma and begin a healing process. It’s natural to wonder what to expect during EMDR therapy. As the therapist guides you through a set of repated movements such as eye movement, tapping, or auditory cues, you will begin to process the difficulty and possible positive outcomes. Using bilateral activation, your therapist will help you to work through the underlying difficulty and symptoms.
